Доброго ранку. Дуже уважно прочитайте це повідомлення.

В зв’язку з тим, що вчора з різних причин не всі змогли виконати тести, сьогодні розклад підсумкових контрольних робіт в нашій групі такий:

1) з 11:00 до 12:00 – повторний тест з читання (на платформі «На Урок».

2) з 12:00 до 13:00 – тест з аудіювання 
(за посиланням, поданим нижче).

3) з 13:00 до 14:00 – тест з письма 
(для тих, хто не написав учора). 

Якщо виконані завдання з аудіювання та письма будуть надіслані пізніше визначеного терміну, то й оцінки будуть нижчими.

А тепер інструкція щодо виконання:

Починаємо писати тест з англійської мови з читання (Reading) на платформі «На урок». Вам потрібно:

3) Написати своє прізвище та ім`я українською мовою (без помилок),  натиснути Приєднатись.

EXAM FOCUS

Виконуючи це завдання, слід звернути увагу на

1.         змістове наповнення,

2.         логічний зв'язок між частинами,

3.         лексичну наповнюваність,

4.         граматичну правильність висловлення.

Особистий лист має розпочинатися зі звернення: Dear у поєднанні з іменем або прізвиськом адресата - Dear Ann або Dear Blondie.

У першому абзаці використовуються такі вступні розмовні формули: How are you? I'm fine. Thanks for your letter. It was really nice to hear from you. I'm sorry I haven't written for such a long time but... Hi! How's everything (going)? I hope you are well. Sorry I haven't written sooner, but... тощо.

Далі слід вказати, з якою метою ви пишете лист: The reason I’т writing is...  I’т writing to tell you... You asked me to recommend some (places to stay in my country)... I've managed to find out some information about (language schools) for you.

Ретельно опрацюйте всі три пункти комунікативного завдання, за кожним пунктом ви маєте написати окремий абзац.

Для належного зв'язку між абзацами доцільно вживати з'єднувальні елементи:

Ø коли перелічуєте факти та послідовно вводите ідеї, використовуйте такі з'єднувальні елементи: firstly, secondly, to begin with, in addition, lastly,, besides.

Ø на позначення контрасту та протиставлення застосовуйте: on the one hand...on the other hand, however, still, in spite of/despite, тощо.

Ø для підбиття підсумків вживайте вирази: all in all, to sum up, in conclusion тощо.

He забудьте завершити листа словами Love/Yours/Best wishes та підписати своїм (на ДПА) або вигаданим ім'ям (на ЗНО).

EXAM TIP

Запам'ятайте, що в підписі до листа на ЗНО обов'язково слід вжити вигада­не ім'я або прізвисько, наприклад, Best wishes, Margaret / Yours, Victor. He використовуйте своє справжнє ім'я та прізвище.

AUSTRALIA

Australia is the only country in the world that is also a continent. It is the sixth large country and the smallest continent. Australia lies between the South Pacific Ocean and the Indian Ocean. It is situated about 11 000 km southwest of North America and about 8200 km southeast of mainland Asia. The total area of the country contains 7 000 000 square kilometers.

Did you know that Australia is one of the oldest lands in the world?

A long line of mountains runs from the north to the south of the east coast. It is called the Great Dividing Range because it divides the green, wet coast of eastern Australia from the hot dry lands in the centre.

Australia has three different climates. In the north, the weather is tropical — hot and wet. In the centre, the climate is very dry, and the land is mainly desert. In the south, it is pleasant with cool winters and warm summers. The four great deserts of central Australia cover 2 000 000 square kilometres.

The name of the country comes from Latin word «australis» which mean southern. The country’s official name is Commonwealth of Australia.

The Commonwealth of Australia is a federation of states. It is today an independent member of the Commonwealth, self-governing since January 1, 1901. Australia has six states — New South Wales, Queensland, South Australia, Tasmania, Victoria and Western Australia. Each Australian State has its own government and its own capital city. The States Capitals are Perth, Brisbane, Sydney, Melbourne, Hobart and Adelaide. Australia has two terri­tories — the Australian Capital Territory and the Northern Territory.

 Australia is a constitutional monarchy like Great Britain. The nation is administered under written constitution. The British monarch, Queen Elizabeth II, is also queen of Australia and country’s head of state. But the queen has little power in the Australian government. She serves mainly as a symbol of long historical tie between Great Britain and Australia. Australia is a member of the Commonwealth of Nations which is an association formed by Britain and some of its former colonies.

The capital of the country is Canberra, this city became capital in 1927. Federal government works in Canberra. There are no industrial plants in the city. The population of Canberra is about 300 000 people. There we can find the buildings of Australian academy of Science, the Australian National University and others. The biggest industrial cities of Australia are Sydney and Melbourne.

Where do all Australians live? In fact most of them (85 per cent) live in the cities of the east coast. But even these cities are not very big. There are about 20 million people live in Australia, and it’s a very big country.

Sydney is the best known place in New South Wales. In fact, it’s the best known place in Australia. New South Wales has the Blue Mountains. They are covered with forests of blue-coloured eucalyptus trees. The air above the forest contains millions of microscopic drops of eucalyptus oil. When the sun shines, the air of the Blue Mountains is a real, beautiful blue.

The Great Barrier Reef on the coast of Queensland is a garden under the sea. There are 1400 different kinds of fish, and more than 300 kinds of coral. Tropical fruit and flowers grow on the beautiful islands. It is not surprising that more holiday makers come to Queensland every year.

South Australia is the driest of all the states, but it has the Murray River, which brings greenness and life to the state’s south-east corner.

Tasmania, the island south of Australia, is small. It is the same size as England. There are no deserts in Tasmania. It often rains, both in winter and summer. Only half a million people live in Tasmania, and a large part of the island is still covered with wild, beautiful rainforests. These forests are full of wonderful flowers and interesting animals, like the little Tasmanian devil.

Australian climate is dry and warm, even hot. Australia is situated in the Southern Hemisphere and that is why it has summer when we have winter and vice versa. January is the hottest month in Australia. Australia is separated from other countries. The animals in Australia have developed differently. They are called marsupial. They are interesting. You can see the dingo, a wild dog which kills other animals at night, the kangaroo and many parrots there. There are many lakes in the country, although this country is called the country of deserts. There are many deserts in the central and western part of the continent. Australia is a very rich industrial country. They extract there coal, iron, nickel, zinc, silver and gold. Oil and natural gas help to build big industries. Australia is one of the most important producers of metals and minerals. It exports woolen goods, meat, fruit and sugar. Melbourne, Sydney and Brisbane are the biggest cities and ports of the country.

Australia is one of the world’s developed countries. Australia has modern factories, highly productive mines and farms, and busy cities. It is the world’s leading producer of wool and bauxite (the ore from which aluminium is made). It also produces and exports large amounts of other minerals and farm goods. Income from the export enables Australians to have high standard of living. The most important trading partners of Australia are Japan and the United States.

CANADA

Canada is situated on the north of Northern America, washed by the Atlantic Ocean in the east, the Pacific Ocean in the west, and the Arctic Ocean in the north and in the north-east by the Baffin Bay and the Davis Strait, which separate it from Greenland. In the south and in the north Canada borders on the USA. It is a land of vast distances and rich natural resources. Canada became a self-governing dominion in 1867 while retaining ties to the British crown. Canada’s territory is the world’s second largest country, surpassed in size only by Russia. Its total area is 9 975 000 square kilometers. It takes about four days to travel across Canada by car or train. Canada is so large that there are six time zones. It includes many islands, notably the Canadian Arctic Islands, also called Arctic Archipelago in the Arctic Ocean. Economically and technologically the nation has developed in parallel with the US, its neighbour to the south. The total area is about 10 million sq km. Canada is slightly larger than the US. It is an important manufacturer, and its major cities, such as Toronto, Montreal, Vancouver, Ottawa, Edmonton, Calgary and Winnipeg are centres of commerce and industry.

The climate of Canada varies from temperate in the south to subarctic and arctic in the north. The highest Canadian point is Mount Logan 5,959 m. Canadians live in only one third of Canada. The population of Canada is about 32 million people. The capital of Canada is Ottawa. There are two state languages: English and French. English is spoken by 60 % of population; French is spoken by 23 % of people.

Most of Canada’s inhabitants live in the southern part of the country and vast areas of the north are sparsely inhabited. The country is divided into ten provinces (Alberta, British Columbia, Manitoba, New Brunswick, Newfoundland, Nova Scotia, Ontario, Prince Edward Island, Quebec, Saskatchewan) and three territories (Northwest Territories, Yukon Territory, Nunavut Territory). The third territory called Nunavut, to be carved from the present Northwest Territories, was created in 1999.

Canada’s first name comes from an Indian word «kanata», which means «village». (It is derived from an Iroquoian term meaning «village».) The first French settlers used this name for the colony, but the official name was «New France».

      Among the great rivers of Canada there are the Saint Lawrence River, draining the Great Lakes and emptying into the Gulf of Saint Lawrence; the Ottawa and the Saguenay rivers, the principal affluents of the Saint Lawrence liver; the Saint John River, emptying into the Bay of Fundy.

Canada is a constitutional monarchy. It is a member of the Commonwealth of Nations and Queen Elizabeth II is sts official head of the state. Although the Queen holds this high position, she doesn’t rule. She serves as a symbol of British tradition. Her representative in Canada is the Governor General, whom she appoints on the advice of the Canadian Prime Minister. The Governor’s duties are symbolic, mostly ceremonial acts.

The real power belongs to the Prime Minister and his Cabinet. The Canadian Parliament consists of two chambers: the House of Commons and the Senate.

Canada is an independent nation. But according to the Constitution Act of 1982 British Monarch, Queen Elizabeth II of the United Kingdom is recognized as Queen Canada. This symbolizes the country’s strong ties to Britain. Canada was ruled by Britain completely until 1867, control when Canada gained of its domestic affairs. Canada became independent from the United Kingdom on July, 1, 1867. Legal system is based on the English common law, except in Quebec, where civil law system based on the French law prevails.

The racial and ethnic makeup of the Canadian people is diversified. About 57 percent of the population is composed of people of the British origin. People of the French origin total about 32 percent of the population. The vast majority of French-speaking Canadians reside in Quebec, where they make up about three-fourths of the population; large numbers also live in Ontario and New Brunswick.

French-speaking Canadians maintain their language, culture, and traditions, and the federal government follows the policy of a bilingual and bicultural nation. During the 1970s and 1980s the proportion of Asians among the Canadian population increased, and today those who count their ancestry as wholly Asian make up 8 to 10 percent of the population. More than two-thirds of the Asian immigrants live in Ontario or British Columbia. The remainder of the population is composed of people of various ethnic groups, such as German, Italian, Ukrainian, Netherlands Dutch, Scandinavian, Polish, Hungarian, Greek, and Native American. Blacks have never constituted a major segment of the Canadian population. Indigenous people make up nearly 2 percent of Canada’s inhabitants.

The largest religious community in Canada is Roman Catholic. Nearly half of Canadians who are Roman Catholic live in Quebec. Of the Protestant denominations in Canada the largest is the United Church of Canada, followed by the Anglican Church of Canada.
